Tips on Buying Car Batteries

Batteries are one of the most essential parts of your car engine. The battery powers the motors’s electrical equipment and car accessories. The alternator provides most of the electrical needs of the entire car system while the motor is running. The battery takes over when the motor is not running. And is needed to start the car in the first place.

When buying a battery for your motor car consider the folowing:

Relative Sizes – Buying batteries is much like buying a pair of shoes. The size of the battery must fit in to the slot you have in your car. It should also not be too small to avoid vibration and spillage.

Power Function – Check your car manual for specifics of your car’s battery power requirement. Relative size of your car, and entertainment system are just some of the things that need to be considered. In cold countries like America, check the batteries Cold Cranking Amps or CCA.

In theory, the higher the better. The CCA rating shows how long the battery can keep turning the engine before it starts. CCA is a power measurement used to mark the battery’s ability to start an engine at 0° Fahrenheit within a 30 second period.

Manufacturer Warranty – How long does the manufacturer think the battery will last? (the longer the better).

Determining Freshness – As with all other commodities, a wise consumer only purchases items which are fresh and undamaged. The same is true for buying battery equipment for your car. Was the battery produced by a licensed car battery manufacturer? When was it manufactured (on the side of the battery look for a letter and a number. The letter indicates the month A = January, B = February etc. The number is the year: 0 = 2000 1 = 2001 etc

Beware fake or used batteries which are marketed as “new” Check the date of manufacture mentioned above.
